Global Cultural Commons

Vision & mission

Breaking down barriers by building trust between people already doing good work

Our vision is building something too big to do alone — connecting people around the world who are improving their own local communities and sharing those ideas with one another.

Our mission

To create relationships and partnerships, share ideas, organize resources, and foster collaboration for the common good — locally and globally.

In practice that means three disciplines: listening carefully to how a community describes its own challenge, documenting honestly what a local team tried, and making that record easy for another community to adapt.

We do not export solutions. We circulate evidence, methods, and the confidence that comes from knowing someone else has walked a similar road.

How we got here

A short history of the commons

  1. 2019

    First conversations

A handful of community organizers on three continents began comparing notes on what actually worked at home.

  2. 2021

    The commons takes shape

Councils formed, a shared documentation practice emerged, and the first models crossed borders.

  3. 2024

    Educators join at scale

Teachers and community educators began co-authoring open curriculum from field-tested practice.

  4. Today

    A platform for shared knowledge

The commons is building an portal and public resource hub so any council can learn from every other.

Governance & accountability

Locally led, transparently run

Council-led decisions

Program direction is set by the community councils doing the work, not by a central office.

Open documentation

Methods, adaptations, and failures are published so others can judge fit for themselves.

Financial clarity

Annual reports and audited statements will be posted here as they are completed.

Safeguarding

Child, data, and cultural-heritage safeguarding policies apply to every partner.
